Make the prefix ‘un-’ your friend to increase your vocabulary

One of the best ways to expand your English vocabulary is to become familiar with prefixes and suffixes. For example, The prefix un- is easy to use and remember.

When applied to adjectives, the prefix un- means not:
  • happy ---> unhappy
  • lucky ---> unlucky
  • afraid ---> unafraid
  • When added to verbs, the prefix un- indicates a reversal of action:
  • lock ---> unlock
  • pack --->unpack
  • wrap ---> unwrap
