If you recall from my post on July 25, lay in the present tense is a transitive verb = to place something down. Its past tense form is laid.
I laid your iPad on the table.
He laid the bowling ball on my foot.
The hen laid an egg.
She laid the baby in his crib.
lay; laid (transitive verb) = to place something down
lie; lay (intrasitive verb) = to recline; to rest on a surface
